USDA expands program to transition to certified organic agriculture

WASHINGTON — U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack recently announced a new step to support farmers transitioning to certified organic production with the expansion of a crop insurance option to allow producers to purchase insurance coverage that better reflects
their product’s actual value. USDA says the expanded coverage is part of the department’s continued commitment to provide farmers with resources and tools to meet the growing demand for certified organic products.
